This was a series of housekeeping droids produced by Publictechnic during the New Order. Short in stature, the U2C1 was made from hardened-plastic components, with long, pleated hoses for arms and spindly legs. These droids lacked a torso, with the head and neck meeting at the housing that contained the leg servomotors. The original series of U2C1 droids were quite reliable, although not extermely durable. During the height of the Galactic Civil War, it was learned that crimelords had modified the programming of U2C1 droids employed by hotels to suck up jewels and credit chips. (JE, EGD)

U-33
This was a model of old, out-dated, orbital loadlifter that was equipped with a four-stage primary thrust sequence. Han Solo's training officer used one to help his cadets gain emergency landing experience at the Academy. It was during Han's own test that he earned the nickname Slick, after Alexsandr Badure rigged a U-33 to all but self-destruct. Han was able to bring the vessel to a near-perfect landing despite the problems he encountered, although he scared his instructor almost to death in the process. Although durable, the typcial U-33 was prone to problems with its reservoir-locking mechanisms, which often stuck in one position and kept the landing gear from fully extending or retracting. (HSL)

Unknown to Princess Organa and her fellow rebels, U-3PO had been captured and reprogrammed by the Empire for espionage purposes. Thus, the droid was able to secretly relay information on the Tantive IV's location to the Imperial forces that were tracking the ship. (CCG2, SWI93)

U55-XBB
This was the map designation used by the Confederacy of Independent Systems to identify one of Gentes' primary industrial centers. General Grievous launched a massive attack on the location, during the height of the Clone Wars, hoping to gain control of the administrative center and conquer the planet. Using a huge military presence to literally scare the native Ugnaughts into a surrender, Grievous was able to take control of the industrial facilities with virtually no loss of life or resources. This gave the Trade Federation the opportunity to quickly take over the processing of resources without having to rebuild the facilities. (SWGG)

U-83R
This was an entry-level ion drive system produced for the Empire by SoroSuub, during the height of the New Order. (SWG2P)

Ualaq
Very little was known of this subspecies of Aqualish, since much of the society of the planet Ando was dominated by the Quara and Aquala races. While the Ualaq had fingered hands like the Quara, they have four eyes instead of two, like the Aquala. Like the Quara, the Ualaq preferred to live on land, rather than in the ocean. (PH, NEGA)

Ualaq Pride
The Confederacy of Independent Systems claimed that this mercenary gang was hired by the Old Republic through a group of Andoan loyalists, during the early stages of the Clone Wars. In direct violation of the Treaty of Raquish, the Separatists claimed that the Ualaq Pride used airstrikes to harass Andoan civilians, ostensibly to force the Andoan government to split from the Separatists and rejoin the Republic. (SWI67)

Uba III
This world, the first in the Uba System, was ravaged by radioactive firestorms after the Old Republic attempted to curb the technological advance ofd the Ubese people. The Republic's pre-emptive attack actually detonated Ubese weapons stores on several worlds, including Uba III. The resulting explosions were so great that they cracked the planet's crust, and gravity eventually ripped the planet apart. The orbital debris eventually formed an asteroid ring between Uba II and Uba IV. Investigation by historians later revealed that the Jedi Order had played a role in the devastation in the Uba System, casting the righteousness of the Jedi into question. (SESB, EGF)

Uba IV
This world, the first in the Uba System, was ravaged by radioactive firestorms after the Old Republic attempted to curb the technological advance of the Ubese people. The Republic's pre-emptive attack actually detonated Ubese weapons stores on several worlds, including Uba IV. Unlike the rest of the system, however, Uba IV maintained an ability to support life, and the surviving Ubese people migrated to the planet. Investigation by historians later revealed that the Jedi Order had played a role in the devastation in the Uba System, casting the righteousness of the Jedi into question. During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems established a manufacturing facility on the planet, producing Octuptarra Droids for use in the fighting. (SESB, NEGD, EGF)

Uba V
This world, the first in the Uba System, was ravaged by radioactive firestorms after the Old Republic attempted to curb the technological advance ofd the Ubese people. The Republic's pre-emptive attack actually detonated Ubese weapons stores on several worlds, including Uba V. The planet was wiped clean of any atmosphere it once had. Many of the planet's urban areas were destroyed during the New Order by the forces of the True Ubese led by Savax, who sought to wipe out the yrak pootzck Ubese living on Ubertica. The attack was halted when an Imperial fleet wiped out Savax's forces. (SESB)

Ubese
A race of humanoid aliens whose language was distinguished its metallic sound, the Ubese people were native to the Uba System. Millennia before the Battle of Yavin, the Ubese were a relatively isolated race with a highly-sophisticated culture. When the Uba System was discovered by the Old Republic, traders began bringing high-tech devices to the Ubese. They hoarded technology and learned to reverse-engineer much of it, developing their own forms of higher technology. The desire to obtain more technology began to splinter Ubese society, and their drive to have better technology split them even further. During era known as the Draggulch Period, delegates of the Old Republic soon discovered that the Ubese were producing technologies which had been outlawed by the Republic, and realized that much of it was military materiel designed for large-scale devastation. In an effort to curb the Ubese advancement, the Old Republic launched a pre-emptive strike to bring a halt to the production. Unfortunately, the Republic's attack exploded Ubese weapons stores on every world in the system, destroying Uba III outright and wreaking radioactive devastation on Uba I, Uba II, and Uba V. Only Uba IV remained marginally viable, and many Ubese were forced to survive there. The semi-toxic atmosphere forced them to wear specialized filtration masks, and altered their physiology in many ways. Those Ubese who survived and lived on Uba IV became known as the "true Ubese." Those that chose not to live on Uba IV migrated to the Ubertica System. These Ubese were shunned by their brethren on Uba IV as being too soft to be "true Ubese," and became known as the yrak pootzck, a term which indicated their impure parentage and cowardly ways. (E6, SESB, AE, NECH)

Ubiqtorate
This division of the Imperial Intelligence agency was responsible for overseeing all activities of Intelligence. While other branches of the Intelligence agency concerned themselves with the acquisition and understanding of information, the Ubiqtorate focused on the strategies and strategic concerns of the agency as a whole. The Ubiqtorate provided guidance to the entire organization, and never concerned itself with the lower levels of the Intelligence community. Members of the Ubiqtorate were never identified, and always referred to themselves simply as "Ubiqtorate." In this way, the mere mention of the Ubiqtorate became more intimidating than that of Imperial Intelligence. The name of this division was traced back to a COMPNOR scandoc that indicated the COMPNOR members had no idea of what Ubiqtorate agents did for the Empire, an admission that the Imperial Intelligence leadership chose to leave unanswered. This was the first time that the term Ubiqtorate was used, and it remained in use after the COMPNOR scandoc was mistakenly released to the media. (HTTE, ISB)

He eventually sold the goods he acquired to an Alliance operative for a tidy profit. With the credits, Glah convinced his brothers to buy a ship and acquire as much valuable salvage as they could. This nearly bankrupted them, but they managed to locate some truly rare items that kept them wealthy and kept their business running.

The business became known as Glah Ubooki's Strange and Wondrous Imports, and Glah maintained a mixture of worthless junk and unusual relics. In order to continue to seek out new wares, Glah's brothers helped run the shop. Each brother claimed to be Glah Ubooki, in order to protect their ture identities, and the real Glah always pretended to know a customer, whether he had actually met them or not. Eventually, all eighteen brothers of Glah's took part in the ruse, and their family prospered. (SWJ1, OWS)

While working with the smuggler Dossa, Doc Uburluh devised a plan to capture the failed Jedi Haazen, and then place the Yoke of Seeming on him. This would allow Haazen to serve as a Sith spy among the Jedi Order, preserving his life while making him a pawn of the Sith. Over the generations, the Ubuugan race developed a toxic secretion that helped them defend themselves against the Ubuugan fleshborer. (BFS)

Ubuugan Fleshborer
This was the species of winged, carnivorous insects that was native to the planet Ubuuga. The adult fleshborers attacked living creatures and used a corrosive excretion to burrow into the body, where they consumed the hose from the inside and laid their breeding sacs in the dead body. The larval fleshborers remained inside the host until their sacs were disturbed, at which point they became agitated and burst forth from their sacs and attacked any living creatures in the vicinity, starting the fleshborer's lifecycle all over again. Uda-Khalid was distinguished by the row of short horns which ran back atop his skull from his forehead, and the long, drooping, black eyebrows which framed his huge face. The Jedi Council was alerted to his actions, and the lack of prosecution against him, and dispatched Mace Windu to bring him to justice. Uda-Khalid, however, wanted nothing to do with being taken in for justice, and challenged Windu to one-on-one combat. Unfortunately for Uda-Khalid, Windu's lightsaber training was impeccable. In a swift flourish, Windu speared Uda-Khalid though the heart. Uda-Khalid's reign of terror was over. (T13)

The job was simple: assassinate Tholote B'Leph just before the general elections took place on Ter Abbes. The resulting civil war was exactly was Nom Anor wanted, as it threw the planet into chaos and deflected attention from the Yuuzhan Vong's approach to the galaxy. Over the following months, Udelen made contact with Boba Fett himself, and forged an alliance in which the Mandalorians performed a number of jobs for the secretive Udelen. Just prior to the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, Udelen agreed to travel to Mandalore to forge a deeper alliance with the Mandalorians, hoping to have them on the side of the Yuuzhan Vong when the invasion began. The vessel had been mistakenly reactivated by Olee Starstone and Filli Bitters during their escape from Kashyyyk, and the vessel tried to continue the mission it had been carrying out when it was deactivated. This mission turned out to be a suicide run, as the Separatists had set their ships to self-destruct when Kashyyyk was captured by the forces of the Grand Army of the Republic. The Recusant-class ship rammed into Ugan's Detainer, and both ships were destroyed in an immense explosion. However, they found none of the Togruta settlers who lived on the planet. Commander Ugg then demanded a meeting with Kenobi, and offered the Jedi the chance to surrender. When Kenobi refused, Ugg revealed that he had placed thermal detonators throughout the city, all of which could be detonated at a single command. If Kenobi refused to surrender, Ugg could set off the detonators and destroy the city. Instead of immediate surrender, Kenobi gave Ugg a counteroffer: a duel between them, with either Kenobi's surrender or the location of the Togruta as the reward. Ugg agreed, but was unprepared when a battle droid reported that Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, were disabling the thermal detonators in the city. Ugg broke off the fight in an attempt to set off the weapons, but only succeeded in destroying his own starship. In an angry rage, Ugg threw himself at Kenobi, who used just enough leverage to lift Ugg and throw him out of a window. Ugg fell to his death, knowing that he was denying Kenobi the location of the Togruta. Ugly Droid
This was the Basic translation of the Jawa term that was used to describe the droids that the Jawas created from various parts that had been salvaged or otherwise acquired. These droids took on no specific form or task, since they were built from whatever happened to be available at the time of their construction. However, they tended to fall into three of four categories, including heavy labor units, scanning units, cargo units, and messenger units. The so-called Monster Ugly was perhaps the best-known example of this form of recombinant part-bashing, combining aspects of all major forms of ugly droids into a single, huge automaton. Many of these ugly droids were prized by droid collectors, as they displayed incredible craftsmanship in making all the disparate parts work together. The craft was nearly appropriated by Viqi Shesh, who had obtained access to the Terson residence when Hasray Terson died at the hands of Deuna Ku. Unfortunately, she was unable to use the ship to escape her Yuuzhan Vong captors. Instead, Garik Loran and Bhindi Drayson took the ship for use as an escape craft, when Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade Skywalker cut off their mission to Coruscant. (EL2)

Ugmush
This female Gamorrean was the owner and captain of the Zicreex. She dyed what little hair she had a bright pink color, and wore up to fifteen morrts attached to her flesh to indicate her endurance and strength. To accentuate her appearance, Captain Ugmush wore garish eyepaint and several diamond-studded nose-rings. In order to communicate with the galaxy around her, Captain Ugmush wore a transliterator around her neck. She preferred to have the translator speak Basic in the voice of Amber Jevanche, giving Ugmush a pleasing voice. (POT, SWJ14)

Ugmush
This was a common male name among the Gamorrean people. Like most Gamorrean names, it was essentially gibberish that indicated what a Gamorrean would do if you made him angry. (GCG)

Ugnaught
This was the native language of the Ugnaughts. (ANT)

Ugnaught
A race of small, piglike creatures known for their mechanical abilities, Ugnaughts were native to the planet Gentes. There, Ugnaughts evolved to become strong, efficient creatures, able to withstand a great deal of discomfort. However, the planet's hostile environment eventually forced them to move elsewhere. Many tribes of Ugnaughts were also stolen, and sold or leased as slaves.

One of the nearest planets to Gentes was Bespin, where the Ugnaughts became an integral part of the society on Cloud City. Ecclessis Figg purchased three tribes of Ugnaughts - the Irden, Botrut, and Isced - and gave them the daunting task of building Cloud City. If they could do this, Figg agreed to give them their freedom and a place to live in the floating city. The Ugnaught tribes agreed, seeing the opportunity for freedom, and they worked extra hard to make Cloud City a wonderful place to live. They chose for themselves a series of lower city levels, creating burrows and tunnels to mimic the environs of their homeworld. Other Ugnaughts established the floating city known as the Ugnaught Surface, giving the local population the choice of living spaces.

As a people, the Ugnaughts were known as great storytellers, and much of their history was collected and passed on in long tales. As a race, the Ugnaughts were generally peaceful and shy, preferring to remain apart from other races.

When the Empire took control of the station, the ugnaughts were left behind. They resented the Imperial presence on the station, and began rebelling against it. They caused all sorts of damage, and even tried to incapacitate Lobot so that the Empire couldn't use him to interface with the city's central computer. As a last resort, the ugnaughts began planting bombs around the outpost, and planned to set them off when Lando returned to the city and repaired Lobot. Together, they disarmed the bombs and forced the Imperials off the outpost. The ugnaughts were once again returned to the free status they desired. (E5, JS, GG2, ISU, EGC, NEGA)

Ugnaught Mechanics Union
This union was formed on Cloud City, to ensure fair and equitable treatment of Ugnaught mechanics who were working on the floating city during the decades leading up to the Battle of Naboo. The original charter of the union was developed by Boss Ugnor, in cooperation with Ecclessis Figg himself. Years after its formation, the Union moved its primary headquarters to Ugnorgrad, on the Ugnaught Surface. (BH, PH)

Ugnaught Surface
This was the name of the floating city envisioned by Boss Ugnor, and eventually stablished in orbit around the planet Bespin. Located a kilometer below Cloud City, the Ugnaught Surface was created from left-over materials used to create Ecclessis Figg's floating city. In fact, it was Figg himself who donated the materials, in thanks for the hard work of the Ugnaught population. It was used as a base from which Ugnaughts could mine the ores and minerals used to construct the Cloud City facility at Bespin. Once the city was completed, the Ugnaught Surface became something of a refuge for those Ugnaughts who no longer wanted to live on Cloud City, nor return to their homeworld of Gentes. It measured a square kilometer in surface area, and contained artificial landscapes filled with swamps, marshes, and jungles that were reminiscent of Gentes. The city of Ugnorgrad dominated the largest of four sections of the Surface, and was connected to the others by tunnel-like transport tubes. Its bouyancy was maintained by a collection of tibanna-gas-filled bladders, and its bowl-shaped structure allowed it to collect condensing moisture from Bespin's atmosphere, which could be used to feed the artificial landscapes. When Lando Calrissian took over as Baron-Administrator of Cloud City, he promised to double the wages of the Ugnaught miners, provided that any tibanna gas mining on the Surface was halted. (PH)

Ugnaughts' Progress
This sweeping holodocumentary was developed Ars Fivvle, and described the history of the Ugnaught tribes which were brought to Bespin to help build Cloud City. Drawing from moer than fifty years of footage from the newsfeed Action Tidings, Fivvle spun an award-winning tale of how the bllod, sweat, and tears of the Ugnaughts made Bespin that planet it had become. Although Ugnaughts' Progress was limited to the newsnets of Bespin for many years, the liberation of Cloud City allowed it to be picked up by the media of the New Republic. The popularity of the holodocumentary grew rapidly, and it was seen from one end of the galaxy to the other in just a few years. (PH)

Ugnor, Boss
This Ugnaught, who stood at least a meter and a half tall, was generally regarded as one of the tallest and most noble Ugnaughts ever to live. He was the leader of the work parties who traveled from Gentes to Bespin to assist Ecclessis Figg in the construction of Cloud City, and his ability to deal with the human earned him the title "Ufflor of Ufflors". He also helped created the Ugnaught Mechanics Union, and was the driving force behind the construction of the Ugnaught Surface. (PH)

Ugnorgrad
This was considered the capital of the Ungaught Surface facility, located in orbit around the planet Miser. Those Ugnaughts who retired from the workforce the built and maintained Bespin's Cloud City facility often retired to Ugnorgrad, rather than returning to Gentes, since they considered Bespin their home. They also believed that it was the Ugnaughts who made Bespin the tourist attraction that it became. Named for the legendary Boss Ugnor, Ugnorgrad was controlled by King Ozz during the early years of the New Republic. (PH)

Ugnorgrad Performance Hall
This was the main facility for Ugnaught-based music, drama, and dance performances, found in the city of Ugnorgrad on the Ugnaught Surface. (PH)

Ugnorgrad Swampway
This skimmer race course was created in the atmosphere of the planet Bespin, and was based out of the city of Ugnorgrad, on the Ugnaught Surface. King Ozz held an annual race along the Swampway, known as the Swampway 200, during the early years of the New Republic. (PH)

Ugnor's Thumbs
This was a mild expletive used by the Ugnaughts who lived and worked on Cloud City, during the height of the Galactic Civil War. (PH)

Ugor
A race of intelligent, single-celled creatures who came from a splendid world of incredible natural resources found in the Paradise System. The short-sighted Ugors quickly consumed all that the planet could offer, and they turned the planet into a toxic garbage dump. The Ugors, rathering than perishing the garbage they had created, adapted to life in the pollution. They moved off the planet, and began taking apart the planet in their home system in an effort to obtain more and more natural resources. They move about by exuding a series of pseudopods from their bodies, or by encapsulating themselves in special environment suits. Each of the pseudopods had a specific task - communication, movement, et cetera. The brain of the Ugor was located in the center of their body, and was made up of a huge number of molecular structures similar to brain cells in most humanoids. While limited in their abilities, the molecules have a faster access time than normal brain cells. Also, since each molecule had a specific function, Ugor brains were also quite adaptable. They seem to worship garbage and junk, and have gone so far as to persuade the Empire to allow them first access to all Imperial garbage. They consider other scavengers, such as the Squibs, to be business rivals that need to be eliminated. The Ugors tried to stop the Squibs from procuring a gravity-well projector during the Galactic Civil War, a device which the Squibs had planned to loan to the Alliance for use in dragging the Elusive out of hyperspace. (GG4, SH)

Ugor Battle Wagon
This huge, doughnut-shaped warship was equipped with outdated autoblasters, pseudosonic beamers, and G-type rotolasers. While these weapons aren't very powerful in small numbers, the Ugors placed a multitude of them on each battle wagon. The combined firepower was impressive. The Ugors developed the battle wagon to attack and destroy Squib ships which jumped Ugor claims to salvage. (SH)

Ugor Salvage Company
This small waste-recovery corporation was founded by the Ugors, and was responsible for the manufacture of the Black Hole-class salvage dreadnaught. Like all such operations, they were loyal to the Holy Ugor Taxation Collection Agency. (GG4, SH)

After the Jedi destroyed the base, the Yinchorri surrendered and stopped their attacks. (AOW, NECH)

Uhl Doaba'I
The name of this establishment means "peaceful place" in the Socorran tongue. It was considered the last vestige of civilization found within the city of Vakeyya before a traveler entered the open desert. The building which housed the Uhl Doaba'I was rumored to be over 2,000 years old, and it had been maintained by the Ibhaan'I shamen for many generations. A small group of shamen ran the establishment, and would put together an osma bag for a traveler who gave them a small donation of credits or food. (BSS)

Uhl Eharl Khoehng
This great, Old Corellian tragedy was generally regarded as one of the greatest in all the galaxy. It was first performed some 500 years before the Battle of Yavin. The title comes from the Old Corellian term, khoehng, which means king. The word eharl was a Socorran mythological term which refers to an elf or trickster. Thus, the translation of the title into Basic yields "The Trickster King." The story of the play begins with the death of a king and his handsome young son. It opens on a distant world, where the son must take the throne once occupied by his father. The son - known as the Edjian-Prince - decides to expand his father's holdings and orders much of the surrouding forest cut down. When the woodsmen fail to return, and no trees were felled, the Prince's subjects begin to whisper of uhl eharl khoehng, and the Edjian-Prince begins trying to contact him. He sends messengers into the forest with invitations, but none of them ever return. The people begin to rebel against the Edjian-Prince's follies, until he orders his soldiers to drive them all into the forest. No one, not the subjects or the soldiers, ever returns. The Edjian-Prince was left with just his aging hunt servant, and the prince then sends the old man into the forest, in a last-ditch effort to locate the trickster king. When the old man also fails to return, the Prince barricades himself within his castle walls, but uhl eharl khoehng was too smart for that. The trickster invaded the Prince's dreams and bade him to come into the forest, promising safe passage and a discussion of peace. The Prince awoke and travelled into the forest, hoping to restore his kingdom. However, uhl eharl khoehng tricked him, and although he was never hungry or thirsty, the Prince was forced to travel through an unending labyrinth of trees during a ten-year search for the trickster king. At one point, the spirit of the huntsman appeared to the Prince and told him that the trickster king had turned all the people of the kingdom into trees, unable to move or speak. The Prince was led to the edge of the forest, where he encountered the Eharl Khoehng for himself. The Prince was given a choice - to worship the Eharl Khoehng and have his kingdom returned, or die. The Edjian-Prince went mad, running back into the forest and setting fire to the trees, claiming that the burned-out trees and blackened soil were "...the only kingdom I deserve to rule, and the only kingdom that the Eharl Khoehng can claim." He then submitted himself to the Eharl Khoehng and mutters the famous last line, "Long ... live ... the king." (SWJ8)

Uj Cake
This was the informal name for a sweet, filling, amber-colored dessert cake that was considered the staple of the Mandalorian diet. Its full name was uj'alayi, and it was not uncommon to find it served at formal parties during the last years of the Old Republic. Uj cake was made from a dense, sweet cake that was created from ground nuts, dried fruits, and various spices. A thick syrup called uj'jayl was then poured over the cake and allowed to soak in, creating a sticky mass that was packed with nutrients and energy-producing sugars. The origins of uj'alayi came from the rations that were provided to ancient Mandalorian soldiers, and it was often said that uj cake was first cooked inside the helmet of a soldier before it was put up for storage. The modern version of uj cake was baked in a round pan, and wrapped well to prevent damage. Even in its unpreserved state, uj cake lasted for years because of its high sugar content. (RCHC, OWS)

Ujaa

This being was one of the four members of the gang known as the Slams, during the years leading up to the Clone Wars. Ukiah served as the group's expert on weapons and defense systems at the time. Several years before the Battle of Geonosis, Ferus Olin impersonated Ukiah in an effort to infiltrate the planet Romin and located Jenna Zan Arbor. Slam and his gang had gone underground, but suddenly turned up on Romin at the same time as Ferus and the Jedi. (JQ8)

Ukian
The primary race native to the planet Ukio, Ukians had a strong fear of the unknown. Rumors tended to get them overly excited, and sudden or unexpected events left them rattled. They were a species of hairless humanoids, with green skin and thin, red eyes. Many beings thought that they appeared to have been assembled incorrectly, being gangly and awkard when they moved about. Despite their appearance, the Ukians were very strong. They were known for their skills in agriulture. (TLC, LCSB)

Ukio
A major agricultural center for the New Republic, Ukio was the primary planet in the Ukian system. The foodstuffs produced on Ukio provided sustenance for many planets along the Triellus Trade Route and throughout the Abrion Sector. A large planet, Ukio had a mild climate and minimal seasonal changes. In centuries past, the planet was covered with lush plains, but modern farming techniques have turned it into a well-managed gridwork of fields and fallow. Each of the three major continents on the planet were strictly maintained, and crop rotation procedures were a matter of Ukian law. In the year leading up to the Clone Wars, Ukio and the entire Abrion Sector attempted to secede from the Old Republic, a move that would have provided the Separatists with a source of foodstuffs and giving them a measure of self-suficiency. Jedi Master Yoda made a personal request to the planetary leaders to remain loyal to the Republic, and although the leaders agreed, the general populace remained divided on which side of the conflict to support. To ensure that the Ukians agreed to Separatist control, Passel Argente put Project Instinction into motion, hoping to force the Ukians to drop their planetary shield. Many years later, it was attacked by Grand Admiral Thrawn and forced to surrender before being recaptured by the New Republic. It was attacked by the Star Destroyers Chimaera and Stormhawk just prior to Thrawn's attack on Coruscant. (TLC, LCSB, HNN5, CWOC2)

Ulabore
This man served the Brotherhood of Darkness as a Lieutenant, leading the Gloom Walkers unit during the years leading up to the Battle of Ruusan. Although Lieutenant Ulabore won praise from his superiors for the success of the Gloom Walkers, the entire unit was well aware of the fact that its success was due more to Dessel's leadership than Ulabore's. He took complete credit for the unit's success on Kashyyyk, although he had panicked when cut off from the main force and was relieved by Dessel. Ulabore did, however, promote Dessel to Sergeant after returning from Kashyyyk. His inability to lead was made more apparent when the Gloom Walkers were sent to Phaseera to eliminate a Republic communications post, a mission that would allow Sith forces to capture several manufacturing centers without being spotted by the Republic's forces. Ulabore received his orders, which were to attack the communications center immediately. His superiors feared that the center would not fall easily, and the Gloom Walkers needed time to complete their part of the mission. Ulabore realized that an immediate attack would come during the daylight hours, allowing the Republic forces to see the Gloom Walkers coming. However, rather than stand up to his superiors, Ulabore simply went aloing with their orders. Dessel, however, was not about to let his fellow soldiers be slaughtered. He cold-cocked Ulabore, rendering the Lieutenant unconscious and unable to follow his orders. Dessel waited as long as he could before launching the attack, until he had enough cover to guarantee success. Although the Gloom Walkers were successful, Dessel was soundly reprimanded for his actions. (DBPD)

Its orbit was unusual in that it was always in the light of the Cularin System's suns, while the dark side of the planet was lit by the reflection of Genarius. Thus, Ulbasca's surface never experienced a true "night." The atmosphere of Ulbasca was based on oxygen, but traces of poisonous gases make the air unbreathable. Nevertheless, several species of reptiles existed on Ulbasca, feeding on sulfurous plants. These reptiles resemble short-legged snakes, and could grow to be forty meters in length. (LFC)

Ulbert
This Corellian thug was a student of an ancient Force-sensitive who tended to twist the Jedi Code to his own designs. Like his fellow students Kym and Renthor, Ulbert had no connection to the Force, but adhered loyally to his teacher's twisted version of the Code. His favorite tenet was "Peace through pieces," which was supported by the law "There was not motion, there was only pieces." Ulbert and his buddies lived aboard the Mynock 7 Space Station, and often harrassed the patrons of the Farrimmer Café. (SWJ11)

Ulcane, Meres
This man joined the Imperial Academy at the age of 17, not because he was smart or strong but because of an influential uncle within the military. After barely graduating, he was assigned to a demolitions squad which ordered into battle behind the lines in Alliance territory. He suspected that his commanding officers detested him because he got into the military because of his uncle, and that they were trying to kill him off. Seeing that he needed to get a quick promotion in order to survive in the military, Ulcane locked his entire team in a warehouse owned by the Alliance and destroyed it. Not only did he receive commendations for taking out a strategic enemy site, he was awarded for his bravery in surviving the assault when the rest of his team didn't. Ulcane managed to make several more upward movements within the military, although each promotion was accompanied by strange or unusual circumstances. He became a student of aline cultures during this time, primarily because he was treated as an outsider by his peers. Shortly after the Battle of Endor, Captain Ulcane escaped a mutiny aboard his own ship and fled to the Outer Rim Territories. There, he met another Imperial officer, and together they formed the Kaarenth Dissension. It was their goal to incite all the alien races of the Outer Rim against the fledgling New Republic. When he was discovered by Republic agents on Betha II, Ulcane fled to the Spawn Nebula, where the Kaarenth Dissesion had been hoarding starships for an assault on the New Republic. The agents tracked Ulcane to the nebula, where they discovered the fleet and its supporting space station. The agents managed to destroy the station and much of the fleet, and it was believed that Ulcane died aboard the station. (SWJ8)

This was the term used by the Tusken Raiders of Tatooine to describe any Tusken youth who had not achieved adulthood. (VD2)

Uliar, Chas
This man was twenty-two years old when the Outbound Flight Project was destroyed, shortly before the onset of the Clone Wars. He had been hired by Outbound Flight's leaders just after graduating from school, and had jumped at the chance to join the mission. However, as politics and the Jedi Order became more and more involved with the day-to-day activities of the project's development, Chas began to feel that he had made a mistake. His fears were realized when Jedi Master Jorus C'baoth began to assume more and more control of the mission after its launch, especially when C'baoth began interrupting normal activities to train the Jedi on how to operate the ships' systems. Thus, he was at the forefront of a group of engineers and families that wanted to petition for better conditions for the non-Jedi on the ships. When Jedi Master Justyn Ma'Ning overruled Captain Omano's plans to decorate the shipboard cafeterias, Uliar decided that he had had enough. Ulair and Dillian Pressor developed a plan to bring their greivances to Master C'baoth, but their timing was anything but perfect. C'baoth refused to hear them out, and ordered Lorana Jinzler to jail them in the central storage core under further notice. Then, Outbound Flight was intercepted by the task force led by then Force Commander Thrawn, whose surgical attacks left the Dreadnaughts dead in space. However, this series of events saved their lives, as Thrawn used radiation bombs on the Dreadnaughts to eliminate any opposition. Only those beings in the core survived the attack, but their relief was short-lived. Outbound Flight, under the command of Jinzler and the Chiss Syndic known as Thrass, escaped from Thrawn but was forced to crash-land on a remote planetoid in the Redoubt. Uliar and his people survived the crash, but Jinzler and Thrass were killed trying to ensure their safety. Thus, Uliar became one of the original leaders of the Survivors. Uliar later served as one of the Directors of the Managing Council, charged with making all the policy decisions relating to the survivors of the Outbound Flight Project. In this position, Uliar was effectively the leader of the entire group of survivors during the years leading up to the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy. When a Chiss-led group of beings arrived at the location of Outbound Flight and was detained by Jorad Pressor, Uliar and his Councilors were somewhat angry that they had not come directly to him. This anger was added to the already-present hatred he felt toward the Jedi Knights, for their lack of action in trying to protect the Outbound Flight Project and its thousands of non-Jedi. Uliar also didn't like the fact that Bearsh and his companions were in group, although he failed to put his finger on what was wrong until it was nearly too late. After Bearsh and his companions trapped Uliar, Dean Jinzler, and Aristocra Formbi, Uliar realized that Bearsh was not a Geroon, as he claimed. Instead, Uliar recognized that Bearsh was actually a Vagaari. After the Vagaari threat was eliminated, Uliar and his fellow survivors grudgingly agreed to accompany the Outbound Flight Colony to Nirauan, staying as far away from the New Republic as they could. He was also an opportunist, and when he was approached by Shu Mai to help fund the growing movement of certain planets to secede from the Old Republic, Uliss saw an opportunity to create a separate corporate empire of his own. Uliss, like many Ansion businessbeings, was frustrated and upset with the continual revisions which came from Coruscant to the laws and regulations of the Republic. He agreed to help Shu Mai in her efforts to bring about the secession of Ansion from the Republic, hoping that the Malarians and Keitumites would follow shortly afterward, in accordance with the alliances with Ansion, therby causing a chain reaction of secession. However, when Ansion agreed to remain part of the Republic, Uliss grew impatient and edgy. He demanded immediate action from Shu Mai, who saw Ansion's loss as just a bump in the road to full secession. When Uliss pressed harder, Shu Mai decided that his usefulness had come to an end. On a walkway between the Bror Towers on Coruscant, Shu Mai trapped Uliss in a small force field, then destroyed the supports for the walkway. Uliss fell to his death, the victim of an apparent structural failure. (APS)

Ulix, Ulu
This three-eyed, horned alien youth was the Padawan learner of Jedi Master Glynn-Beti, during the early stages of the Clone Wars. Ulu Ulix was assigned to guard young Boba Fett and the other orphans aboard the Candaserri, after they were rescued from Count Dooku's lair on Raxus Prime. Years later, as the Clone Wars drew closer to an end, Glynn-Beti and Ulix were dispatched to Xagobah to lead the forces that were laying siege to Wat Tambor's hidden fortress. Because the fortress - known as the Mazariyan Citadel - and much of the surrounding plantlife had been geneticalky altered by Tambor to serve as guardians, the clone troopers under her direction were unable to get close to the fortress. Tambot, meanwhile, continued to send droid armies into battle, relying on sheer numbers to overwhelm the Republic's forces. Ulu tried to singlehandedly penetrate the fortress by forcing Tambor's ramship to plunge into it, but his swoop was shot down before he could complete the task. Instead of falling to his death, however, Ulu Ulux found himself in the arms of Boba Fett, who had traveled to Xagobah to capture Wat Tambor for Jabba the Hutt. Ulu Ulix survived the crash, and returned to his Master's side to help with the defeat of the Separatists on Xagobah. (BF2, BF5, BF6)

The number 14 played a large role in the Ulizra, as there were 14 unique sects of the religion, all led by a theocratic king. The Great Structure, the basic guidelines of the Ulizra religion, had 14 vens, each indicating a different level of religious and academic achievement. (TOJC)

Ulta Center
This luxurious conference center was located on Rondai-2, during the last decades of the Old Republic. Because many of the galaxy's wealthiest and most influential beings held conferences and meetings at the Ulta Center, its owners provided some of the galaxy's most sophisticated security systems to ensure its guests were safe and free to move about. Located in the city of Dal, the Ulta Center boasted its own private landing pads, and no being was allowed to enter the Center unless they were already pre-screened and part of a known party. Reservations were absolutely required, and guests from different parties were kept separated to esnure their privacy and security. The Ulta Center was the site of a conference of galactic leaders some seven years before the Battle of Naboo. Passel Argente discretely hired Magus and a team of bounty hunters to assassinate the leaders, but their plans were thwarted by a group of Jedi Knights led by Qui-Gon Jinn and Adi Gallia. (SOJ)

Ultaar
This was one of many planets on which the Alliance maintained a base during the era between the Battles of Yavin and Hoth. Most of the planet's semi-tropical landmasses were set aside for agriculture, with much of its industry based on the export of luxuriously-scented flowers and plants. Darth Vader emerged from hiding on this planet, following the Battle of Yavin, hoping to gather information about the pilot who destroyed the first Death Star. Ultimo Vista
This converted Giga-class transport ship was produced many decades before the Battle of Geonosis. Original built as a leisure cruise ship, the Ultimo Vista ended up on Coruscant as a self-contained environment that moved across the face of Galactic City. The ovoid ship, distinguished by its black armor plating and hammerhead-shaped bridge, allowed its residents to live their entire lives without ever having to set foot on Coruscant's surface. This also allowed the thousands of residents to breathe fresh - albeit scrubbed and refined - air and drink fresh - albeit it recycled and purified - water. The Ultimo Vista was an exceptionally slow-moving vessel, and was nearly hit by Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi during their attempt to chase down Zam Wesell shortly before the Battle of Geonosis. (IWE2)

Ultra Battle Droid
Officially designated the B3-series Battle Droid, the Ultra Battle Droid was developed by Baktoid Combat Automata for the droid armies of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the height of the Clone Wars. The UBD was developed by a team of engineers on Foundry, as part of a competition that was created by Wat Tambor to create a more powerful successor to the B2-series Super Battle Droid. The original prototype was known as the Avatar-7, and was personally approved for development by General Grievous. Standing four meters tall, the B3-series battle droid had four arms instead of the two that were normally found on Separatist battle droids. The right primary arm was equipped with a flamethrower, and a wide-spray plasma cannon in its left primary arm. Each secondary arm was equipped with a retractable blaster cannon. Additional weaponry included a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher and the experimental density projector. This unusual weapon was a specialized tractor beam generator that could be used to cause a momentary increase in the droid's apparent weight, making it seem twenty times heavier than normal. This allowed the B3 to secure itself to a specific location or to trample an enemy tank. Development costs for the B3-series were exceptionally high, although its developers knew that it was not designed to be deployed in massive numbers, as was the B1-series battle droid. Instead, the B3-series Ultra Battle Droid was designed to serve as a sort of enforcer for field commanders. Despite its awesome appearance, the B3-series proved to be troublesome to produce and maintain, and the designs weren't perfected until the Clone Wars had ended. Many of those B3-series units that survived the fighting were eventually acquired by the Empire, and sent to the Imperial training facility on Carida. (NEGD)

This incredibly-dense metal was used in the production of vibroshields and other forms of blades, since it could withstand high temperatures and maintain a razor-sharp edge despite heard usage. When connected to a power supply, ultrachrome became a form of superconductor, absorbing energy and shunting it aside. Kar Vastor used an ancient form of ultrachrome in the construction of his vibro-shields; the metal was believed to have been taken from the hull of the crashed colony ship which brought the Korunnai's Jedi ancestors to Haruun Kal. Originally produced by Sienar Fleet Systems, the seven-meter-long ULAV were fast and maneuverable, but lacked heavy armor plating. The Empire decommissioned them in favor of walkers, and stored them for later use. The Alliance, in raiding Imperial outposts, confiscated a great number of these ULAVs, and uses them throughout the galaxy. Each ULAV was armed with twin light laser cannons, a concussion grenade launcher, and a single medium blaster cannon. (RASB, AEG)

Ultramesh
This was a dense weave of solid fibers, which was produced by the Verpine during the years following the Great Sith War. Umbara
This planet was located within the deepest portion of the Ghost Nebula, where it was bombarded by a wide range of ultraviolet light and radiation. The natives of the planet, known as Umbarans, could see into the ultraviolet spectrum. During the decades leading up to the Battle of Ruusan, Umbara was the site of a Sith training academy, where those individuals with some control over the Force were trained to become spies and assassins. (VD2, DBPD)

Umbaran
This outwardly humanoid race was native to the planet Umbara, and was known to have existed at the formation of the Old Republic. Umbarans were characterized by their pale, bluish skin and white-pigmented eyes. Umbarans were capable of seeing into the ultraviolet spectra of light, but had little vision in the normal, visible spectrum. In fact, an Umbaran could be momentarily blinded by a bright flash of normal light.

It had been said that Umbarans had the ability to subtly influence and control other beings, and it was known that many Umbarans used their strange abilities in identifying hidden Jedi during Emperor Palpatine's Jedi Purge. Because a great many Umbarans used their influence to secure positions of power within the government of Emperor Palpatine, as a people they feared that some form of retaliation might occur when Palpatine was killed at the Battle of Endor. This led the Umbarans to flee deeper into the Ghost Nebula, although they maintained an invisible information network to monitor the activities of the New Republic.

As a people, the Umbarans existed in a detailed caste system of nearly 100 distinct levels. Of these levels, only those Umbarans who were in the top ten were allowed to leave their homeworld and visit thje galaxy at large. However, movement between caste levels was possible for all Umbarans, and most individuals spent a large portion of their lives planning how to move up to the next level. Those individual Umbarans who failed in an attempt to move upward, especially those who arranged for assassinations or other illegal activities, were usually sentenced to life in prison or death, depending on the caste level of the individual they tried to eliminate. This penalty was often made more severe by placing the individual's entire family under the same penalty, in an effort to prevent unnecessary deaths. Many Umbarans believed that the risks associated with moving up were far outweighed by the potential rewards, thereby perpetuating the practice. (VD2, SWI70, UANT, NEGA)

Umbaran Shadow Assassins
This was the name given to those members of the Shadow Assassins who were trained at the Sith Academy on the planet Umbara, during the era of the New Sith Wars. The Umbaran Shadow Assassins preferred the use of force pikes in their fighting, and were trained to use the Dark Side of the Force to mask their presence from others. This allowed the Umbaran Shadow Assassins to move about without being detected by other Force-sensitive beings, placing them among the most dangerous killers in the galaxy. These individuals were adept at killing other Force-sensitive beings, and were known to have destroyed many Jedi Knights over the years. Like the other Shadow Assassins from Ryloth, the Umbaran group went into hiding in the wake of the Battle of Ruusan. (DBRT)

Umbaran Shadowcloak
Created by the natives of the planet Umbara, this cloak appeared in visible light to be a shaggy, white drape with a high, stiff collar. To the Umbaran people, however, it was patterned with ultraviolet colors. The fabric of the shadowcloak was woven with special sensors that helped the Umbaran blend into their surroundings, making them almost invisible to other races. (VD2, NEGA)

This was the spoken language of the Umbaran race. (UANT)

Umbazz
This word from the Jawan language translated into Basic as "price." (GPB)

Umber, Kirma
This female Vindalian was the wife of Baron Vlacan Umber. Like her husband, she loved the arts, but she failed to see the allure of the light sculptures that he regularly purchased from Ves Volette, during the final years of the Old Republic. When Ves Volette was found murdered in his conapt, Jax Pavan and his comrades were hired by Dejah Duare to investigate his death. Jax could initially find no reason to implicate Baroness Umber in the murder, although she seemed to have no love for Dejah. However, evidence gathered from questioning the beings who lived and worked near Volette's apartments revealed that a Vindalian had been in the area on the night of Volette's death. Jax Pavan was inclined to believe that this was actually Baroness Kirma, since several reports said that the Vindalian was quite large. When he confronted her with this evidence, Pavan posited that the Baroness had followed her husband to Volette's residence, fearing that he might buy another light sculpture, then killed the artist when he refused to prevent the sale to Baron Vlacan. Kirma admitted to following her husband, but claimed that she feared he was having an affair with Dejah Duare, and that she did not kill Volette. Vlacan admitted that she Dejah was attractive, but that he had no romantic interest in her. Both the Baron and his wife were then stunned when their domestic droid admitted to killing Volette, and Pavan apologized for his actions by explaining that the allegations were required to force the droid to reveal its actions. (CN2)

Umber, Vlacan
This Vindalian male and his wife, Kirma, were members of a royal family from their homeworld of Vindal. Vlacan held the title of Baron of Flavin Hold on his homeworld of Vindalia, and was a noted patron of the arts, during the final decades of the Old Republic. One of his favorite artists was Ves Volette, and Baron Umber became close friends with the Caamasi sculptor in order to learn about his latest light sculptures. The Baron bought his first light sculpture because of its beauty, then the next two to balance out the display in his estate. He later purchased two more sculptures, and during the period of time between purchases, he became close friends with Ves Volette. In the wake of Volette's murder, Baron Umber came to believe that it had become his obligation to preserve Volette's artwork for future generations.

He explained this belief to Jax Pavan, when the young man and his comrades arrived at the Umber residence to gather information for their own investigation of the murder. Evidence gathered from questioning the beings who lived and worked near Volette's apartments revealed that a Vindalian had been in the area on the night of Volette's death. Jax Pavan was inclined to believe that this was actually Baroness Kirma, since several reports said that the Vindalian was quite large. When he confronted the Umbers with his allegations, Baroness Kirma refused to admit to killing Volette. However, she did admit that she had followed Vlacan to Volette's residence on the night of the murder, hoping to prevent him from having an affair with Dejah Duare. Vlacan was stunned by this admission, but was even more amazed when their domestic droid admitted to the killing. Pavan admitted that he had made up the part about Baroness Umber committing the crime, hoping to force the droid to reveal the truth of its actions. Note that the 'c' in this character's first name has a tail in print, altering the otherwise hard sound. (CN2)

An antidote was later distributed throughout the Umboo Province to counteract the effects of the virus. (GORW, DCAR)

Umbool Provincial Patrol
This was one of the many provincial police forces established on the planet Roon, after the death of Governor Koong allowed the provinces to have free rein over their territories. One of the first jobs performed by the Umbool Provincial Patrol was the clearing of the remains of Tawntoom Citadel, in an effort to locate any traps set by Koong. Once cleared, the Citadel would serve as the base of operations for the Council of Confederated Provinces. (WOTC, GORW)

Umbrag
This Skakoan was a member of the Techno Union, during the years leading up to the Clone Wars. Umbrag served as the Overseer of the Separatist installation on the planet Kynachi, including the overhauling of the KynachTech Industries factory to serve as a droid and weapons manufacturing center. About a year after the Battle of Geonosis, Overseer Umbrag was alerted to the presence of a Jedi-led task force on Kynachi. Ring-Sol Ambase and his Padawan, Nuru Kungurama, were working with clone troopers to investigate the appearance of KynachTech circuitry among the wreckage of the Separatist warship Malevolence. Overseer Umbrag was made aware of Master Ambase's arrival by Cad Bane, who had been hired by Darth Sidious to apprehend and eliminate the Jedi. However, the Separatists were unprepared for the appearance of Kungurama, nor were they ready for the droid known as Cleaver, which eliminated large numbers of Separatist battle droids before closing in on Umbrag's position. Overseer Umbrag tried to back away and make his escape, but a misstep made him fall off a gantry. Umbrag then made his way to a hidden office near the hangar where his Metalorn yacht was waiting. Once in the safety of his office, Umbrag opened a communication channel to Count Dooku, demanding to know why he was now facing two Jedi. Dooku seemed briefly confused, but then ordered Umbrag to destroy the entire factory complex while the Jedi were still inside. Umbrag balked at this, since he had spent years getting the factory ready for operation, but decided it was best to follow Dooku's orders. Overseer Umbrag set off the self-destruct mechanism, then fled Kynachi in his yacht. (SM1)

This huge Klatooinan was one of Jabba the Hutt's palace drummers. Born into slavery on the colony world of Shawti, Umpass-stay had been part of clan Desilijic since birth. He had become a trusted advisor to Shebba Kalshi Desilijic, but once misjudged the intentions of Shebba's nephew, Jabba. Jabba had Shebba executed for his mistrust, and took possession of Umpass-stay. Umpass-stay became a spy for Jabba, helping keep tabs on the comings and goings of the beings in the Hutt's Tatooine palace. Umpass-stay and Ak-Rev were also two of Jabba's most trusted bodyguards, and the Hutt required them to play the drums with each band that came to the palace. Many bands refused, citing that their drum-playing clashed artistically. In the aftermath of Jabba's death near the Pit of Carkoon, Umpass-stay was temporarily free, and tried to reach Mos Eisley with Ak-Rev. On the way, they were ambushed by a group of Tusken Raiders, who killed Ak-Rev but let Umpass-stay go free. After reaching Mos Eisley, Umpass-stay met up with Darson Kinderlot, who agreed to transport him to Hutt Space. Once there, Umpass-stay went to work for Jocoro Desilijic Tiure on Du Hatta. Half reptile, half mollusk, the umrach stood on two stout legs. Its arms were insectile tentacles, and its head was a mass of waving tentacles. The mouth of the umrach was filled with spear-like teeth, which it used to impale it prey. For its large size, the umrach was surprisingly fast, and could catch a running person in no time. These creatures were designed to help eliminate any survivors from the Battle of Coruscant, so that the Yuuzhan Vong could transform Coruscant into a simulacrum of their long-lost homeworld, Yuuzhan'tar. Rast'Tul told the young girl that her parents had placed her in his care, until the problems in the Cularin System could be resolved. (NET3)

Uncle Nyyv's Floating Eatery
Owned and operated by the Sullustan Nyyv during the height of the New Order, this popular restaurant was located on Streysel Island, on the planet Vaynai. The restaurant was unique in that it could move from place to place, allowing Nyyv to serve hot, homecooked meals to arriving spacers, often before they passed through customs. The restaurant itself was created on an old Ubrikkian transport barge, which was equipped with a tractor beam projector that allowed Nyyv to sidle to a newly arrived ship and offer its crew a hearty meal. The Eatery proved to be quite popular, as Nyyv understood that the only thing most starship crews wanted more than a warm bed as a good meal, after eating the chemicals manipulated by most onboard autochefs. (GMR8)

Uncle Ono
This was Padme' Amidala's nickname for her fellow Senator, Onaconda Farr, who was an old friend of Padme's father. Undauntable
This Imperial-class Star Destroyer was under the command of Admiral Helaw, during the early years of the New Order. As the oldest ship in the fleet that patrolled the Atrivis Sector of the galaxy, the Undauntable was known as much for its spotless service record as for its spotless appearance. The ship served as one of the primary defensive vessels that patrolled the sector during the construction of the first Death Star. Admiral Helaw made several stops as the space station to visit his old friend, Conan Antonio Motti. During one of these visits, the Undauntable was loaded with a sabotaged ammunition shipment from the Omega Gaila. The crate had been sabotaged rebel agents on Gall, in an effort to destroy the Death Star. Instead, the ammunition was loaded aboard the Star Destroyer, where it exploded. Admiral Helaw and a percentage of the crew were killed when the Star Destroyer exploded. (DSTR)

Undaunted
This was one of two Republic gunships that were dispatched to subdue the Almas Academy, in the hours following the command from Darth Sidious to execute Order 66. Jedi Master Darrus Jeht returned to the Cularin System shortly after the Undaunted and her sister gunship, the Primal, launched their attack. He witnessed them taking out several starships, most of which contained Jedi who were trying to escape from Almas.

Launching a daring attack, Jeht pretended that his own vessel, the Malestrom, was a support vessel that was just arriving for in-system clean-up, then passed between the two gunships and opened fire. The Undaunted took heavy damage in the attack, and only barely rolled away as the Maelstrom turned her weapons on the Primal. As it passed, the Maelstrom's clone troopers continued their barrage, taking out the Undaunted's drive systems. The resulting explosion ripped through the gunship's fuel cells, and the Undaunted exploded in a ball of fire. (LFCW)

Under Minister
This was the title given to a member of the New Republic who served the Minister of State in some capacity. Each major branch of the New Republic, military or otherwise, had an Under Minister in charge of its operations. (GG8)

Under Split, The
This was a starfighter dogfighting tactic in which one ship of a pair of defenders turned into the pursuit of enemy fighters, drawing their fire away from the defender's wingman. Then, as the enemy ships turned to pursue the first ship, the defending wingman could then roll under the enemies and fire at their undersides. This maneuver was considered quite dangerous, as it opened the lead defender to the open fire of the enemy ships. Unless the trailing wingman could take out the enemies, both ships became easy targets for the enemy. Many times, especially when it was recognized that one of the defenders was a relatively green combat pilot, enemy fighters would allow the defenders to attempt the under split, drawing them into easy kill positions. (RASB)

Underbid
This was the name of a cracian thumper which was raced at the Heatherdowns Hotel and Track, during the height of the Galactic Civil War. (TSIA)

Undercity
This was one of the most dangerous sections of the planet Taris, during the Sith War some 4,000 years before the Battle of Yavin. Located beneath the Lower City, the Undercity was the domain of the rakghouls. (KOTOR)

Undercity
This was the name used to describe the lowest levels of the immense city-pyramid that dominated the habitable landmass of the planet Aargau. Beginning at Level Seven, the Undercity was accessible only by a few known entrances. A wealth of illicit and clandestine passages were established, lost, and rebuilt over the centuries, allowing all manner of beings to reach the level. Much of the Undercity was set aside for criminal activities, and black-market moneychangers were especially plentiful, garnering a profit from those beings who didn't want to deal with the Aargau banking authorities. (BF3)

Underdwellers
This was the term used to describe those beings who were forced to live below the surface of the planet Coruscant, during the early years of the New Republic. The Underdwellers were forced to live underground for any number of reasons, many of which were economic or personal in nature. They clung tenaciously to their meager existences, and resisted those who thought they were easy targets. (AFA)

Underground Mag-Lev
This network of safehouses and travels routes was established by the Whiplash rebel group on the planet Coruscant, during the months that followed the formation of the Galactic Empire. Whiplash volunteers maintained the various points along the UML, but there were no exact pathways between them, in order to throw off any pursuit. The UML was used to move expatriots and former members of the Jedi Order to safer locations, with the goal of getting them onto safe transports for that they could flee to other worlds. The advantage that the organizations of the UML played upon was the fact that there were billions of beings on Coruscant, many of whom were traveling offplanet on business or pleasure trips. Thus, those beings who were moving along the Underground Mag-Lev could be escorted to spaceports along public accessways by simply blending into the crowd. In cases where Whiplash operatives discovered they were being followed, they could direct their charges into any number of tunnels and passageways in order to avoid their pursuit, while still moving closer to their destination. Knowledge of these tunnels had been erased from Imperial databanks by a high-ranking member of the Whiplash organization who paid for their secrecy with his life. (CN1, CN3)

Underground, The
This was the primary cantina which was in operation on the moon of Tilnes, during the last decades of the Old Republic. It was operated by the Rodian named Maris Gen, and was located below the moon's surface. It catered to the needs of the miners who worked on Tilnes. (LFC)

Underlevel 20
This residential sector of Imperial City, on the planet Coruscant, was noted for its dark streets and thoroughfares. Underslung Rotary Blaster Carbine
Produced by Merr-Sonn during the height of the New Order, the Underslung Rotary was unusual in its design. First, true to its name, the Underslung Rotary had a ring of galven timed galven coils which rotated into firing position. This allowed individual barrels to coll before being used again, reducing the risk of the weapon overheating. Second, the Underslung was just that, resembling an inverted blaster. It was carried at the hip in an underhanded grip, and didn't need to be raised to be fired. While the weapon's appearance and unique firing mechanism made it popular when it was introduced, the Underslung soon lost its appeal, and became a collector's item. (AEG)

Understar
This was the codename given by the Alliance to the Imperial base located in Fara's Belt, in the Rolion Sector of the galaxy. Imperial Major Herrit thwarted an Alliance attack on the base by planting false information for the Alliance to pick up. Herrit knew from intercepted rebel coomunications that the attack was coming, but was unsure which of Rolion Sector's bases was actually Understar. So, he had each base commander report a different problem, and waited an incoming Alliance transmission aboiut Understar.

Because the Alliance believed that Understar was experiencing a "gravitational flunctuation malfunction," Herrit was able to pinpoint Understar's location in Fara's Belt. He then laid a trap, which was sprung as soon as the Alliance began its attack. Thanks to Major Herrit's craftiness, none of the rebel ships involved in the attack survived the Imperial trap. (RASB, OWS)

Und'l
This Buzchub once contracted a group of New Republic agents to help him move cargo from Nigel IV to Lohopa II. Und'l maintained Imperial sympathies, and often worked for them. He was unaware of the Republic agents' affiliation, but then again he also believed he was moving spice. In fact, the remnants of the Empire were using him to transport lexonite to strategic worlds. Like many space-faring Buzchubs, Und'l wore a translator around his neck, in order to help him converse in Basic. (TSK)

Undrarian
This territory of the planet Baralou was controlled by the Krikthasi. (PG1)

Unduine's
This Kuari Princess restaurant was famous for serving 16 kinds of ribs. (RM)

Unduli, Luminara
This Mirialan woman was one of the many Jedi Knights who were active in the years leading up to the Jedi Purge of Emperor Palpatine. A brown-skinned woman with luminous blue eyes and facial tattoos that signified her skills in battle, Luminara was one of the Jedi Council's most trusted advisors. She also served the Old Republic, both as an advisor and as a Jedi. Luminara's tattooes were unusual, with a pattern of diamonds covering her chin and small patterns atop each knuckle. In the years leading up to the Battle of Naboo, Luminara provided assistance to Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, during their investigation of Arwen Cohl. Some ten years later, while in charge of the training of Barriss Offee, Luminara accompanied Obi-Wan and his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, to the planet Ansion, where they were able to form a alliance between the city dwellers and the nomads of the plains, averting the secession of Ansion from the Republic. Their efforts nearly went for naught, as the Jedi were almost defeated at the Battle of Geonosis.

Both Unduli and her Padawan fought bravely, but were badly outnumbered by the droid armies of the Separatists. Only the arrival of Master Yoda and the clone troopers of the Army of the Republic saved the day. As the Clone Wars raged across the galaxy, Master Unduli became known as one of the Jedi Order's most gifted negotiators. She traveled to many different worlds - sometimes, in the company of Governor Willhuf Tarkin, who represented the Old Republic - to negotiate with the Separatist leaders. Master Unduli was assigned to lead the recovery of Nute Gunray from Rodia, where the Separatist Viceroy had been captured by Padme' Amidala. She was paired with Anakin Skywalker's Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, during the mission, and Master Unduli greatly underestimated the strength of Asajj Ventress. Ahsoka's own experiences in fighting the Rattataki assassin forced Master Unduli to realize that her own knowledge was not perfect, and she later apologized to Ahsoka for not taking her seriously. Although Gunray eventually escaped, Master Unduli continued to serve on the front lines. In the wake of the First Battle of Coruscant, Master Unduli was dispatched to Kashyyyk with the task force led by Jedi Master Yoda. However, when Darth Sidious revealed his true nature and killed Mace Windu, he sent out communications to the various clone commanders to execute Order 66. Upon hearing the order, the clone troopers led by Commander Faie opened fire on Unduli, utterly destroying the defenseless Jedi Master as she was trying to heal injured Wookiees and get wounded clone troopers onto medical transport ships. Official reports that aired later on Imperial HoloVision claimed that Master Unduli was killed for her part in the Jedi conspiracy to overthrow the Republic. Une
This was a common name among Cerean females. Unlike their male counterparts, Cerean females use a single name unless they became a bond-wife. More modern usage indicated a feminine warrior. (GCG)

Unearthed
This was the name of the Firespray-31 light freighter that was owned and operated by the noted archaeologist, Aach Een. (UA)

Unet
This was a species of four-armed, insectile beings. Many Unets fled their homeworld during the Clone Wars, after it was subjugated by Separatist forces. Ungasan, Kaeline
This man was an employee of the Corporate Sector Authority who had few morals and no loyalties. He was also an up-and-coming crimelord who tried to rival the Desilijic Hutts by sponsoring a cross-country podrace on Ando Prime, in direct competition to the Ando Overland race. The race, the Ungasan Cross Country, was actually a front for an illegal mining operation. After the Desilijic Hutts had Jer Blankuna hire a team of freelance agents to locate Ree, whom they claimed was their son, Kaeline's connections to the CSA were exposed, bringing down his criminal organization and earning him imprisonment. (GMR2)

Ungasan Cross Country
This podracing event was held on the planet Ando Prime, during the early years of the New Order. It was sponsored by the crimelord Kaeline Ungasan, and was actually a front to cover up Ungasan's illegal mining operations on the planet. The race was distinct from other events in that it started from a different location each time it was run, providing a different course each time while covering up the mining activities. Ungasan hoped that the race would undercut the Desilijic clan's control on Ando Prime, in an effort to expand his own criminal empire. (GMR2)

Uni
This was the name adopted by Kad Chun, after he returned to his homeworld of Telos from Coruscant, where he had attended the investigation into the death of his brother, Bruck. When he found that Telos was so ecolocigally damaged that it was beyond repair, he decided to set out with a group of others to remove himself from the galaxy. Uni founded the BioCruiser and collected a group of followers from other damaged worlds. Two years after the Battle of Naboo, Uni allowed the Jedi Knights to come aboard the ship at the behest of the Old Republic Senate, to investigate allegations of brainwashing and coersion. He was not happy to learn that the Jedi investigators were Anakin Skywalker and his teacher, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The old hatred Kad Chun held for Obi-Wan surfaced, but Uni was careful to keep it in check. (JAD)

Uni-Environmental Survival Suit
As the name implies, this multi-purpose suit provided the wearer a high level of protection in a number of planetary environments. It protected the wearer from extremes in heat or cold, humidity or dryness, and also gave a measure of defense against mild radiation levels. (POM)

Unification Gala
This festival marked the high point of Tapani Sector's Capital Season. It celebrated the unification of the worlds of Tapani Sector by Shey Tapani, some 6,000 years before the Battle of Endor. The hosting of the gala was switched to a different House each year, in order to ensure that no House obtained any particular benefit from hosting it. (TSIA)

Unification Policies
This set of legal guidelines and recommendations was championed by Supreme Chancellor Tarsus Valorum, during the years following the Battle of Ruusan, to help reunite the far-flung star systems that made up the Old Republic. The enactment of the Unification Policies allowed the Galactic Senate to enforce the regulations of membership in the Republic, an act that many groups saw as a form of bullying. Nearly a hundred separatist groups sprang up after the Unification Policies were approved, all tying vainly to oppose the government's ability to keep a star system in the Republic. (DBRT)

Unification Summit
This was to be the culmination of the Galactic Alliance's efforts to repair the damage that was done during the Second Galactic Civil War. Chief of State Natasi Daala struggled to bring the galaxy back together under a common government, and the Unification Summit was set up so that she could discuss a lasting peace with Jagged Fel, the Head of State of the Imperial Remnant, as well as representatives of those planets that still supported The Confederation. The Hapes Consortium was also invited to the initial meetings, but the wording of the invitation from the Galactic Alliance appeared to indicate that Hapan participation was less critical that that of the Imperials or The Confederation. The Hapans declined to join the meetings, refusing to be seen as having a lower status that the others. Many political analysts believed that this was an elaborate ploy by Chief of State Daala to focus the attention of the initial meetings on the Imperial Remnant, and that later meetings would provide the Hapans with a chance to take center stage in the negotiations. (FJ1)

Unification Wars
According to Old Republic historians, the Unification Wars were fought some 25,000 years before the Clone Wars, and resulted in the formation of the Old Republic itself. It was believed that the ancient Bendu augmented the forces of the fledgling Jedi Order to overcome the forces of evil to help the Republic's founders win the wars. (X3)

This corporation, based on the planet Telos some twelve years before the Battle of Naboo, was discovered to be a front for the work of Offworld Mining, as part of Xanatos' plans to gain personal power. UniFy was charged with restoring the parks and natural lands of the planet. To fund this operation, UniFy developed and sponsored the game Katharsis, which gave it almost complete control over the use of Telos' natural resources. UniFy went so far as to rig the games of Katharsis, always ensuring that at least one of the final three bettors was under their control. This allowed Xanatos to gain a foothold with Offworld, which would move in an mine Telos. Unfortunately for Xanatos, his former master Qui-Gon Jinn intervened and destroyed his plans. Xanatos was killed in battle, and Telos was freed from industrial destruction. (DOR)

Unifying Force
This was the facet of The Force which focused on the future and its bearing on a Jedi's place in the present. Those Jedi who studied the Unifying Force understood that the future was constantly in motion, but sought to understand this motion and develop an understanding of their place within achieving the highest of ideals. This facet complimented the Living Force, which connected a Jedi Knight to the living beings which surrounded him, and the Physical Force, which allowed a Jedi to use the Force to manipulate objects around him. It was this aspect of the Force that was perhaps the least understood of the three, a fact that was all the more obvious after the Jedi Purge. As Luke Skywalker set out to rebuild the Jedi Knights after the Battle of Endor, his own training led him to concentrate on the Living Force and Physical Force. It wasn't until the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the galaxy, and the Fosh Jedi Vergere returned from her self-imposed exile among them, that Luke began to consider what the Unifying Force meant to the new Jedi Knights. (PJSB, UF)

UniGuard
This was the corporate simplification Universal Guardians, Incorporated. (WSV)

Unill, Mierme
This Jedi Knight was dispatched to Mon Gazza to investigate the grisly murders of several ore miners, shortly after the Battle of Naboo. Her investigation stalled until she learned that a young Padawan on Coruscant named Zett Jukassa had started having visions that were eerily connected to the killings. She appealed to the Jedi Council for permission to tell Jukassa about his past, and it was then that she learned he had been born on Mon Gazza as Warpoc Skamini. She also learned that his parents were among the dead. With information she gathered from the young boy, Unill was able to expose a group of Black Sun extortionists as the killers. Upon returning to Coruscant, she then took Jukassa as her Padawan. Unfortunately, Unill was killed during the Clone Wars, and Jukassa was left to train under the guidance of Cin Drallig. (SWDB)

Unipod Droid
This was the term used to describe automata similar to the RIC-series of labor droids. Unipods lacked legs for locomotion, relying instead on a single wheel to move them about. Despite their use as labor droids, unipods required sophisticated internal gyro-mechanisms to maintaint heir balance. (VD2)

Uniqer
This was a city located on Draenell's Point, on the continent of Mee'r. (GMK)

Unique Selling Point
This was a slang term used by the leaders of the Grand Army of the Republic to describe any situation that covered up a disaster with fancy descriptions and carefully-worded warnings. Sometimes referred to as simply a USP, the unique selling point was often used to convince someone to do something that they might normally have avoided. (RCTC)

Unis Islands
This chain of islands dotted the oceans of Kaal, and formed the locations of the major resort areas of the planet. When Emperor Palpatine died at Endor, Jeng Droga crashed his ship into the oceans of Kaal in an effort to join his fallen master. The resulting tidal waves wiped out most of the resorts on the islands, causing the Empire to abandon the planet. (SWJ7)

UniScan
This was the name of Melihat's ground-based, uni-directional sensor system. This system employed a turret-mounted sensor dish that could provide details on the terrain it scanned, up to a distance of about ten kilometers. Because this was a uni-directional sensor system, the UniScan could only provide information on the terrain directly in front of it. Additionally, the sensor beam was not capable of probing through solid rock and other dense materials, making the UniScan of limited value in hilly or mountainous terrain. (RASB)

UniSlice
This ancient security code breaker was produced by Duwani Mechanical Products. Designed for military use, the UniSlice could break through the sophisticated electronic locks used by criminals. (TOJC)

Unisuit
This was a generic term used to describe the one-piece uniforms worn by most factory workers of the Old Republic. (DOR)

Eliss attempted to document the various cultures that existed throughout the galaxy, describing their cultural and social motivations and histories. Eliss tried to remain neutral to the state of galactic politics, but the subjugation of alien races quickly became a recurring theme. Too many species had been suborned by Imperial might for him to downplay its effect on their culture. The Guide became known to Kem Tija and Bront Autin of COMPNOR, who attempted to capture Eliss and halt publication. Eliss fled from Sanbra, and reportedly joined the Alliance. The Guide was never officially published, but was later discovered on student computer networks. Unknown Regions
This area on the fringes of the galaxy was located beyond the explored limits of Wild Space, and extended the very limits of the galaxy's outermost spiral. Few spacers bothered to attempt travel into the Unknown Regions, since many star charts had absolutely no data on its astronomy. Because of the gulf created by Wild Space, many of the races that made their homes in the Unknown Regions were just as unaware of the existence of the rest of the galaxy. Only a few ships ever managed to return from the Unknown Regions, and they often spoke of the strange and dangerous races the encountered. During the height of the New Order, the Unknown Regions were considered by many spacers to be areas of Imperial occupation beyond the universe defined by the Old Republic. By the time of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy, the Unknown Regions accounted for just fifteen percent of the galaxy, yet much of it remained unexplored by the New Republic. The primary reason for this was the fact that the Chiss controlled most of the border between the Unknown Regions and the rest of the galaxy. They severely limited traffic into the Unknown Regions, but they also mapped large portions of the Unknown Regions as part of an ambitious mission developed by Grand Admiral Thrawn. Decades of exploration revealed a wealth of unusual creatures and races, along with a wealth of information on the appearance of the rogue planet Zonama Sekot. (HTTE, EGP, FH2, OF)

Unknown World
This was the only name ever used to describe the homeworld of the Rakata race, although the Rakata called it Rakata Prime. It was in orbit around this planet's star that the Star Forge was created many millennia before the Great Sith War. Additionally, a huge temple was erected by the Rakatans to house the defensive field generator that protected the Star Forge. The immense power of this field generator, coupled with the incredible power utilized by the Star Forge itself, caused any number of problems with starship systems. Any ship passing too close to the system was badly damaged, and the surface of the Unknown World was littered with the debris of thousands of years' worth of damaged starship hulls. It wasn't until well after the Galactic Civil War that this planet's true name, Rakata Prime, was discovered. It was also learned that a nexus of the Dark Side of the Force was located near the planet, which probably provided the native Rakata with their lust for power and conquest. In the wake of the War of the Star Forge, the astrocartographers of the Old Republic chose to rename the planet Lehon, since it was the primary world in the Lehon System. This also served to eliminate any possible evidence of the existence of the Rakata. The Jedi Knights agreed with the Republic's plans to remove the Unknown World from the public realm, fearing that its connection to the Dark Side of the Force would cause trouble for any being who stumbled upon it. (SWDB, NECH, DBPD)

He created a number of in-depth studies of planetary ecologies, and was delighted when the Alliance shifted its base of the fourth moon of Yavin. He spent a great deal of his ground time exploring the jungles. However, this proved to be his downfall, for he was out in the jungles when the Alliance began its assault on the first Death Star. He never made it into the battle, but was killed when Qorl's TIE Fighter crashed on the moon. The crippled fighter slammed into the camp he was occupying. He was buried on Yavin 4. Dr'uun's body was discovered by the Empire, and a sample taken to Dantooine, where it was cloned in an experimental rapid-cloning process. (ISU, GOF11)

Unreal City, The
This was the name used by the Skakoans of the Techno Union to describe the massive, underground prison facility that was constructed on Metalorn, during the final decades of the Old Republic. From space, the Unreal City appeared to be a huge, cube-shaped building with a ring of windows on the very top floor. However, the edifice was little more than an administration center, as the real prison was located underground. For many years, the simple threat of being sent to the Unreal City was enough to keep the local populace under control. The main facility was a collection of simple cells, all contained in a stark array of storage cubicles. For exceptionally dangerous prisoners, a set of energized holding cells was located even further belowground. It was rumoured that Jedi Master Shaak Ti was once imprisoned in the Unreal City, and that she was the only being ever imprisoned in the lowest levels. Only a daring rescue by Bail Organa allowed Shaak Ti to go free. However, no records survive the Clone Wars to verify this story. (CWA5)

Unser, Cobb
A member of the FarStar's crew, Unser was characterized by his empathy for droids. Cobb and his sister, Corla, worked aboard the transport Muvon until it was impounded on Kal'Shebbol by Imperial Moff Kentor Sarne. Sarne claimed that the ship had been taken because of unpaid tariffs, but he really hoped to strip the ship for parts. Stranded on the planet, Cobb found work as a repulsorlift mechanic until his sister mysteriously disappeared after meeting Sarne in person. He resolved to spend his life trying find her, and accpeted the open call for crewmen on the FarStar in order to help find Sarne and locate Corla. When he discovered that Corla was among the prisoners at the Q'Maere Research Facility, he was initially happy to be reunited with her. However, as the FarStar moved deeper into the Kathol Rift and tensions between the crew and the prisoners grew strained, Cobb and Corla began agruing over her devotion to Lowen Chase. (DARK, KO)

Unser, Corla
This woman was the younger sister of Cobb Unser, working together aboard the Muvon as free traders in the Kathol Sector of the galaxy. When their ship was impounded on Kal'Shebbol by Imperial Moff Kentor Sarne, Corla found herself courted by Sarne himself, although she was repelled by him. He had her arrested and detained on Q'Maere. At Q'Maere, Corla met and fell in love with Lowen Chase, although they held off on having a serious relationship until they escaped. Their chance came when the crew of the FarStar put in at Q'Maere to restock their food supplies. She was then reunited with her brother, Cobb, and assisted Lowen in generating a prison riot. In the ensuing melee, the prisoners and the crew of the FarStar managed to escape from Q'Maere. However, as the FarStar moved deeper into the Kathol Rift, tensions between the crew and the prisoners grew strained, and Cobb and Corla began agruing over her devotion to Lowen Chase. When Chase called for a mutiny, Corla supported him by taking control of the Engineering center with the help of Kinakt Losron. (DARK, KR)

Unsung
This New Republic warship was part of the Rapid Response Task Force, and saw action during the Battle of Mindor. Like the Lancer, the Unsung was a converted Corellian freighter. Because many of the ship's weapons were retrofitted for use on the freighter, the crew of the Unsung often had to perform slow barrel rolls during combat, to allow overheated weapons to cool down before being fired again. During the height of the fighting over Mindor, the Unsung and her sister ships were hit by the rapid firing of the gravity gun that was part of Shadow Base. The gravity bombs fired by the gun set off intense gravity slices in the space above Mindor, shearing the Unsung apart and destroying the ship. (LSSM)

Untaire
This was the name of a group of Corellian smugglers who were operating within the Cularin System during the height of the Clone Wars. The name became a codeword used as an inscription key, for several transmissions between Jedi Master Darrus Jeht and Trilinae, during the height of the Clone Wars. (LFCW)

(SWGAL)

Unther, Michael
This man served as a Rear Admiral in the Imperial Navy for more than twenty years, and was a combat veteran who commanded the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Victory before his retirement. The son of wealthy parents, Michael was sent to the Academy as a way to settle him down. He used his father's position to get himself assigned aboard a Strike-class cruiser upon graduation. When he sacrificed his ship to save a larger vessel, he was promoted and given command of the Victory. When his father was arrested for suspected treason against the Empire, and later disappeared, Michael began to doubt the true nature of the New Order. His o\own renown in battle saved Michael from any further investigation. After retiring, Michael continued to preach the party line, hiding his inner doubts and concerns from public view. He became one of the premier instructors at naval training centers, such as the one located in the Duluur Sector. Unther had an in-depth knowledge of Imperial procedures for blockading and conquering a planet. (SWJ2)

Untrilla
This Delrakkin was ostensibly the leader of the resistance on her homeworld, during the height of the New Order. It was Untrilla who befriended a downed Alliance pilot during Admiral Termo's attack on Delrakkin City. Along with Gwann, Untrilla explained to the pilot that Captain Skeezer had been on Delrakkin a short while earlier, posing as an Alliance agent who wanted to begin planting alazhi on the planet. She later agreed to have her people help repair the pilot's freighter. (MIS3)

Unu
This was one of the many hives that made up the Colony. Like all other hives within the Colony, the members of the Unu hive referred to themselves, as well as the entire nest, as Unu, and acted upon the Will of the Unu hive. However, the Unu were different in that the hive was made up of individuals from all other hives of the Colony. In this way, the Unu became even more important. The Unu hive rose to prominence some five years after the Galactic Alliance defeated the Yuuzhan Vong, when the former Jedi Knight Raynar Thul was rescued by the Yoggoy and joined to the hive. The influence of the former Jedi gave rise to a new hive within the Yoggoy, which became known as the Unu. Where the other hives of the Colony lacked any concern for any one individual, Thul's training made him stop to assist injured beings rather than simply leaving them to die and then feeding their flesh to the infantile grubs. Thul imparted his caring to those Yoggoy around him, and these new beings created the Unu hive. As the Unu began sharing with other hives, the Colony experienced a form of rebirth that led to its rapid expansion in the Unknown Regions. Thus, the Unu hive became "the nest of nests," and Raynar became UnuThul and the Prime Unu. The combined leadership of the members of the Unu hive became known as the Will of the Colony. (DN1, DN2)

Unu's Will
see Will of the Colony, The (DN1)

UnuThul
This was the name adopted by Raynar Thul, after he became fully integrated into the Yoggoy hive of the Colony and established the Unu hive. As UnuThul, he was able to allow the Unu hive to touch the Force, an act that gave the Colony more desire to grow and live beyond their once humble existence. Under UnuThul's guidance, the Colony expanded their settlements in the Unknown Regions, and created trading relationships with many planets in the Outer Rim. The expansion of the Colony worried the beighboring Chiss, who feared that the Colony might take over some of their worlds. Although tradition demanded that the Chiss could not attack first, they used subtler techniques to force the Colony to retreat. Many of the Colony's settlements were badly damaged by teams of Chiss who spread defoliants and other chemicals to destroy crops, in an effort to starve the hives. UnuThul, seeing the possible loss of life for the Colony, sent out a call through the Force to his old friends from the Jedi praxeum. The call was answered by the members of the team that had attacked a Yuuzhan Vong worldship near Myrkr, including Jaina Solo and Lowbacca. The Jedi left their missions to join UnuThul, and began working to drive off the Chiss. However, when the time came to vigorously defend the Colony, UnuThul demanded that the Jedi leave the Colony, claiming that the Kind didn't want their friends to be harmed. Throughout the years, however, UnuThul was unaware that Welk and Lomi Plo had also survived The Crash, and had established the so-called Dark Nest. Even after Luke Skywalker was attacked on Yoggoy, and Saba Sebatyne was attacked by Welk on Jwlio, UnuThul refused to believe that the Dark Nest existed. Ultimately, he was forced to confront the presence of an evil hive of the Colony when Luke Skywalker defeated Welk on Kr and brought his body as evidence to UnuThul. It was then that Raynar Thul's memories flooded back into his mind. He remembered saving both Welk and Lomi Plo, and became agitated when Lomi Plo's body was not found. He initially claimed that the Dark Nest was part of a devious Chiss plot, but was forced to admit that, in a disassociated way, his actions in saving the Dark Jedi probably led to the birth of the Gorog. He was somewhat vindicated when it was learned that the Chiss mentality aided the Gorog in their ability to maintain secrecy, and he ordered that no more Chiss were to be accepted as Joiners. In order to ensure this order was followed, UnuThul agreed to Leia Organa Solo's plan to relocate the Qoribu nests to Woteba, a planet that was deeper in the Unknown Regions and well away from Chiss space. The relative peace that followed was short-lived, however, when UnuThul learned of the existence of the Fizz. He blamed the Jedi for the problems it caused, accusing them of knowing about the existence of the Fizz and tricking the Colony into relocating to worlds where they would be afflicted. His blind sense of truth forced UnuThul to begin authorizing expansion of the Colony beyond the Utegetu Nebula, which was met by a show of force from the Galactic Alliance. UnuThul also refused to believe that the Dark Nest had survived, despite the evidence of black membrosia and the continued existence of Lomi Plo. Meanwhile, he was unaware that the build-up of military supplies and starship parts was being sent to create nest ships that would transport Gorog-controlled hives out of the nebula and into the rest of the galaxy. However, UnuThul remained loyal to the Colony, and used the materiel to any advantage he could gain. This included the capture and subsequent use of the Admiral Ackbar as the flagship of the Colony's naval forces. However, the continued death toll in the war against the Chiss became so great that UnuThul had no choice but to push for a swift end to the fighting. At the Battle of Tenupe, he ordered Jaina Solo and Zekk to launch wave after wave of attacks on Chiss positions, slaughtering millions of Killiks in attacks that only prolonged the stalemate. This gave Master Skywalker time to launch his own mission, to infiltrate the captured Star Destroyer Admiral Ackbar, eliminate Lomi Plo and remove UnuThul from the Colony. Although the man that was Raynar Thul fought against Skywalker's logic, he came to understand that the unchecked growth of the Colony after his arrival was only going to cause more problems in the future. The Colony, Raynar came to understand, could not support its own accelerated growth without coming into contact with other civilizations like the Chiss, which would inevitably lead to unending warfare. For the greater good of the Colony, Raynar Thul surrendered to Luke, and allowed a special headgear to be fitted to his skull to help him sever contact with the Colony. With Raynar Thul on Ossus, the being that was UnuThul ceased to exist, and the Killiks were allowed to naturally return to a more normal population. (DN1, DN2, DN3)

Often referred to as the ULF, this band was believed to have crystallized around the rogue Jedi Knight, Depa Billaba, and spiritual leader Kar Vastor just after the Battle of Geonosis. In order to draw the attention of Mace Windu and the rest of the Old Republic, the leaders of the ULF put together a scene of wanton death and torture, then recorded the entire scene and placed a data wafer with the recordings into the mouth of a dead woman. With a carefully placed tip to the Republic's Intelligence agency, they managed to achieve their goal of bringing Windu back to Haruun Kal. What Master Windu discovered, though, was that the ULF was barely clinging to its own existence, reduced to staging raids on Balawai outposts just to acquire food and medical supplies. The ULF was being held together by the sheer will of Kar Vastor, who had become the lor pelek of legend. Disease and the jungle were claiming as many Korunnai victims as the Balawai gunships that patrolled the jungles. When Mace Windu finally met up with Depa Billaba, she revealed that the ULF was just a name she had created to help garner attention for the plight of the Korunnai. The illusion of the ULF was meant to force the Balawai militia to expend huge amounts of resources trying to pin down leaders and resources, looking for patterns they believed any organized resistance would employ. The fact of the matter, though, was that the ULF was simply a clan of surviving Korunnai who used guerilla tactics in an effort to avoid extinction. (SHPT)

The Upper City was badly ravaged when the Sith launched their attack on Taris, and much of the urban landscape was leveled in the face of Sith predations. In the wake of the wars between the Jedi and the Sith, Taris was more or less forgotten, and the Upper City floundered for many centuries. However, over time, the inhabitants began to rebuild their once-glorious cityscape. After the planet was spared any major damage during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy, the Upper City was eventually restored to its former grandeur. The original wound left him blind in the eye, but did little to impair his activities, which he managed from a base on Nar Shaddaa. Once Aurra Sing had arrived, Urdruua revealed that the Jedi he wanted to eliminate was Aurra Sing herself. Urdruua explained that much of her training as a bounty hunter and assassin had come at the expense of his family fortune, and he had received little in return. Urdruua then locked her in a chamber that was filling with poison gas, but was only slightly dismayed when she managed to escape. His call for a Jedi hunter had been answered by others, who tracked her movements throughout Nar Shaddaa and did their best to kill her. However, Urdruua was unaware that she had left a disguised explosive device in his chambers. Bith scientists discovered that the urgonox was actually descended from a mutated urgrinox; a large portion of the "junk DNA" contained the cells of the urgrinox combined sympathetically with the genetic weapons unleashed by the ancient Bith, resulting the evolution of the urgonox. The pink-furred urgonox moved about on six legs, but its flexible spine allowed it to rear up on its four rear legs. The front two legs ended with thick claws, which the urgonox could use for fighting or digging. The head of the urgonox was dominated by its two large, blue eyes, which had eyelids that closed from front to back. The elongated snout of the urgonox gave the head a shovel-like appearance; the horny beak at the tip of the snout was used for digging up plants or manipulating carrion. The urgonox had no natural predators on Clak'Dor VII, but was not a predator itself. They were opportunistic, omnivorous scavengers, feeding on anything they encoutnered that did not move. It was rumored that the digestive enzymes of the urgonox were capable of rendering radioactive materials inert, although very little scientific evidence existed to prove this. (WOTC)

This unusual race of parasitic creatures was discovered on the planet Kashyyyk, several years before the onset of the Clone Wars, although it was unknown whether they were native to the planet or not. An Urnsor'is egg was discovered by an adolescent Wookiee of the Myyydril tribe, and was allowed to hatch in their caves. The young creature, which resembled a large brain that moved about on a collection of tentacles, fled the Wookiee caves and found its own cave, where it seemed to spontaneously lay more eggs. These hatched over time, until they were discovered by the Myyydril Wookiees. These Wookiees witnessed their comrades being captured by the Urnsor'is, with the parasite latching itself onto the Wookiee's skull and feeding on them. The Wookiees named the creatures Urnsor'I which meant "mind pod" in their language. The Wookiees believed that the Urnsor'is were sentient, especially after the Urnsor'is began purposely capturing and killing more Wookiees. The Wookiees tried to fight back, but normal weapons seemed ineffective against the Urnsor'is. Only Nak'tra Crystals seemed to able to kill Urnsor'is. (SWGAL)

Uroro Station
This wheel-shaped space station had been built between the worlds of Qogo and Uluq, where it served as a transfer station for Hapan ships passing through the Transitory Mists. The station remained in place at a point that was gravitationally between the two worlds, and served as a waypoint along the corridor known as The Throat, for ships that were travelling to and from the mining world of Shedu Maad. Over time, however, Shedu Maad's mines ran dry, and the facilities at Uroro Station were no longer needed. The station was abandoned, and left to hover between Qogo and Uluq. It was here that Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker stationed the members of the new Jedi Order, in the wake of the Second Battle of Fondor, as a decoy to lure Darth Caedus away from the real Jedi base on Shedu Maad. Master Skywalker hoped to ambush Caedus' fleet near the station, with help from the Hapan Home Fleet. To make it look good, the Jedi had moved their personnel to Uroro Station, and they began evacuating as soon as the fleet approached. Caedus approached cautiously, then used the long-range turbolasers aboard the Megador to open fire on the station. Several of the long-range blasts struck Uroro Station, tearing it apart in large chunks. (LF9)

Urothko
This legendary young Wookiee was a brave warrior who cared little for the cares of others. Many of his peers dared him to travel to the lowest levels of Kashyyyk's forest, claiming that he was a coward if he declined. Urothko accepted the challenge, but was attacked by a fire-spirit known as a Graaa'shad. The spirit brought Urothko deep down into the forest, and prepared to kill him. Luckily for Urothko, the elder Stalpaac intervened. Stalpaac shot the spirit with a bowcaster quarrel, then the two Wookiees launched an attack on the spirirt. Graaa'shad quickly retreated and fled, screaming that one day it would get revenge. In the aftermath of the battle, Urothko pledged his life to Stalpaac, since the older Wookiee had risked his own life to save him. The story of Urothko's rescue quickly spread to other villages, and it was believed that it was the basis for the tradition of the Wookiee life-debt. (TTSB, OWS)

Doge Urus had planned to work with the governing council of Dugs to provide the Republic with access to fuel refineries that were maintained on Malastare, but needed more than the assurances of Jedi Master Mace Windu to know that the Republic was committed to protecting the Dugs from Separatist forces. Chancellor Palpatine authorized the use of a new weapon, the electro-proton bomb, to wipe out the droid army on Malastare, but the resulting explosion also exposed a long-dormant zillo beast. Doge Urus demanded that the beast be destroyed, but Jedi Master Windu refused to allow the creature to be eliminated. Doge Urus threatened to withdraw his support for the Republic unless the creature was destroyed, and the Jedi eventually carried through with their attack on the creature. Once the beast was removed from Malastare, Doge Urus and the Dug council signed a treaty with the Republic that allowed Republic warships to acquire fuel on Malastare. (CWTV40)

Urusai
This reptavian scavenger was native to the planet Tatooine. They had unregulated appetites, and often fed on carrion until they became engorged and unable to fly. The females of the species had two wings, located over their four stout legs. The forelegs of the males were actually a second set of wings, useless for flying but designed for use in mating displays. The thick tail of the urusai was used to provide balance during flight, and could also be used as a fifth "leg." A urusai could lift its body up on the tail, using the wide fan at the base of the tail to provide footing while muscles hold up the body. Each wing was studded with claws, which the urusai used to cling to walls and cliffs while climbing to their nests. Their skulls were dominated by red eyes and a snaggletoothed beak, and a fan-shaped comb sprouted behind their heads to help disperse body heat. During the mating period, the average female will lay up to three eggs. The first urusai to hatch would then push the unhatched eggs out of the nest, ensuring its own survival. Adult urusai developed a symbiotic relationship with the Sarlacc which was found in the Pit of Carkoon, cleaning the teeth and tentacles of the Sarlacc in return for the bits of food they obtained in the process. (WSW, TG)

ur-Yuuzhan Vong
This was a term used to describe the proto-historic race from which the Yuuzhan Vong evolved. These early beings were completely and utterly connected to the Force, living in symbiosis with each other and the species as a whole. When the ur-Yuuzhan Vong became too proud of their individual accomplishments, they were suddenly cut off from the Force, and turned to violence. Modern Yuuzhan Vong religion described this in terms of their pantheon of gods, primarily Yun-Yuuzhan, who was believed to have been the creator of the Yuuzhan Vong race. It was the gods, not the Force, which created the Yuuzhan Vong. They were cut off from the Force because of their desire to escalate themselves, but their religion became twisted around so that they believed the only way to return to the gods was to escalate themselves. In this way, the modern Yuuzhan Vong drove themselves further and further from reconnecting with the Force. (UF)

This city was the capital of the planet Bellassa. It was arranged in concentric circles that surrounded seven beautiful lakes, with wide thoroughfares connecting each circle. Each of the seven districts was designated for certain activities, such as industry and finance. The city was perhaps best-known for its textiles and ceramics. Houses and buildings were kept as low as possible, so as to preserve the natural beauty of the surrounding environment. In addition to the human population, Ussa was home to a contingent of Dornean immigrants. The city was considered the cultural, economic, and social center of the planet, and it was often said that "As goes Ussa, so goes Bellassa."

During the year following the end of the Clone Wars, more than half the population of Ussa was arrested on various charges, after the Empire removed the elected government and installed their own governors. Various demonstrations led to many of the arrests, which were staged near the planet's primary spaceport. About a year after the Clone Wars, the Imperial forces on Bellassa realized that many of the demonstrations were spurred on by the words of Ferus Olin, and they set out to put a stop to it. With the so-called Order 37, hundreds of citizens were arrested and threatened with execution if Ferus didn't turn himself in. Ferus, aided by Obi-Wan Kenobi, was able to free the prisoners and escape Bellassa before any harm could come to them.

However, Ussa remained under Imperial control. Darth Vader was dispatched to Ussa, accompanied by Ferus Olin and Wilhuff Tarkin, to start work on the Bellassan Project, a massive retooling process that was supposed to adapt Ussa's industrial centers to product high-technology components for power conduits and artifical atmosphere processors, instead of textiles and ceramics. The native Ussans were forced to accept this plan, especially when the families of many workers were taken and held prisoner. (LJ1, LJ7)

Utai
This race of diminutive humanoids was native to the tunnels and caverns of the planet Utapau. It was believed that the Utai, like their cousins the Pau'ans, were descended from the colonists who first settled Utapau, some 57,000 years before the Galactic Civil War.

Because of their size, and because of their short lifespan, the Utai were often referred to as Shorts. Although the Utai made up some seventy percent of the population on Utapau, they had been relegated to the labor classes by the taller Pau'ans. The eyes of the Utai were located on short stalks, and provided the Utai with exceptional vision in the dark, underground environments they lived in. Many Utai were employed as varactyl wranglers, despite their short stature, because of their innate ability to work with the creatures.

In contrast to the Pau'ans, the Utai preferred to eat cooked meat. Interestingly enough, Utai preferred the sunlight to the darkness in which they lived. (VD3, E3N, SWCL, NEGA)

Utapau
Jedi scholars believed that this once-mythic planet might have been the birthplace of the Jedi Order, millennia before the Battle of Yavin. Other possibilities included Ondus and Had Abbadon. What was know for sure was that the planet was settled some 57,000 years before the Galactic Civil War, and it was the homeworld of the Utai and Pau'an races of humanoids. Much of the planet's wind-swept surface was dominated by immense sinkholes, in which the Utapauans built their elegant cities. These sinkholes were caused by the porous nature of the planet's sandstone crust, which over time drew all surface water belowground. Thus, entire oceans were formed underground, with the landmasses literally floating on their surface. The continual movement of water eroded the porous rock, causing large sections of ground to sink.

The change on the surface of the planet was believed to have occurred about 10,000 years before the onset of the Clone Wars. With the lack of water on the surface, weather patterns changed, and intense hyperwinds began to scour the surface, levelling mountains and leaving behind a featureless flatlands. However, these winds also produced an unexpected benefit: the power of the wind could be harvested with huge windmills, providing limitless supplies of energy. The Utapauns' ecomony was based primarily on the sale of excess power. Secondary income came from off-world mining operations that tapped into the underground ocean for the trace elements found in the water. During the height of the Clone Wars, Utapau remained unallied to either the Old Republic of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and lacked any sort of strategic value. However, Utapau was eventually subjugated by General Grievous, who transported the leaders of the Council of Separatists to the planet for safekeeping, just prior to the Battle of Coruscant. Utapau was encircled by a ring of moons of various sizes, which dominated the skies during both daylight and nighttime. (PJSB, OWS, ROF, LEV, VD3, E3N, SWDB, SWCL, OWS)

Utapau Council

Utapaun
This was the term used to collectively describe the Utai and Pau'an races, which were native to the planet Utapau. It was believed that both races evolved from a single race of humanoid colonists who first settled Utapau some 57,000 years before the Galactic Civil War. Note that the novelization of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith indicates that the term Utapaun referred to the Pau'an race. (VD3, E3N, SWCL)

Utapaun Committee
This was the primary governmental body that provided leadership and direction for the planet Utapau. The Utapaun Committee was made up from the various Masters of Port Administration, and answered to the chairman of the planet. Membership in the Utapaun Committee, which was also referred to as the Utapau Council, was the exclusive domain of the Pau'ans, because of their long lifespans. However, unlike other planetary governments, the Utapaun Committee only met on a monthly basis, unless a crisis demanded an emergency session. In the periods between meetings, the Utapauan Security Force defended the planet from incursion. (NEGA, SWCL, WOTC)

UT-AT
Officially known as the Unstable Terrain Artillery Transport, the UT-AT was a 23.8-meter-long walker that was developed for the Grand Army of the Republic by Kuat Drive Yards and Mekuun, during the height of the Clone Wars. Its design was inspired after larger AT-TE and SPHA-T walkers caused massive landslides on Agamar with their constant, pounding steps.

The UT-AT was developed from the original walker plans of KDY, which were augmented by repulsorlift technology from Mekuun, to create a vehicle that was more of a tank than a walker. In place of legs, the UT-AT moved about on eight pairs of repulsorlift "skis", each with an independent suspension mechanism that allowed the skis to constantly adjust to changing terrain. The skis kept the UT-AT stable while four massive repulsorlift engines in the forward section provided propulsion.

The UT-AT required a pilot and five gunners to operate, and could accommodate up to twenty clone troopers. However, much of its interior space was dedicated to the onboard weapons systems, which included side- and top-mounted heavy turbolasers and four turret-mounted laser cannons. The forward three weapons earned the UT-AT its nickname of "Trident."

Because of its ability to negotiate rough or unstable terrain, the UT-AT was often deployed on the front lines of a Republic army, clearing a path for other vehicles to follow. However, these vehicles were considerably slower than their larger cousins, and were subject to huge amounts of enemy fire. (SWDB, CVD)

Han told him of the way Dewlanna died saving his life, and the two became quick friends and "brothers." Chakk was distantly related to Chewbacca, through a second cousin three times removed who emigrated to Rwookrrorro and married Chewie's great-aunt's niece. (RD)

Utegetu Nebula
This unusual shell nebula was located within the Unknown Regions of the galaxy by Han Solo and his wife, Leia Organa-Solo, during their search for a habitable planet on which to relocate the Ithorian peoples, in the wake of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy. The open end of the nebula was guarded by the star formation known as the Murgo Choke, and the bluish gases of its walls were broken in only a few places, such as the Mott's Nostril. Investigation by scientists and astrophysicists revealed that the nebula was relatively young, perhaps formed less than a thousand years before. Thus, any planets found within its boundaries should have been badly damaged by the supernova that caused the nebula. However, the Galactic Alliance discovered fourteen other planets like Woteba within the nebula, all of which were perfectly capable of supporting life. When the Qoribu crisis was resolved, the Galactic Alliance decided to turn over the Utegetu Neubla planets to the hives of the Colony, believing that the nebula's isolation from Chiss space would solve many problems. A possible explanation for the inhabitable planets found within the nebula was uncovered with the appearance of the Fizz, a self-replicating nanotechology that may have been created by a former race of inhabitants to restore planets to their natural state in the wake of the supernova. With the reappearance of the Dark Nest, pirates began patrolling the Murgo Choke and the mouth of the Utegetu Nebula, ambushing supply ships and stealing the technologies required by the Gorog to being their explansion. The Galactic Alliance was forced to blockade the Utegetu Nebula, in an effort to keep the Killiks of the Gorog hive from spreading into the rest of the galaxy. In the wake of the Swarm War, the various Killik hives were forced to remain within the Utegetu Nebula, where the Fizz helped to maintain their numbers at a level that was sustainable by their new homeworlds. It was discovered that U-THR had once been owned by Deckland Carper. After Thune killed Carper in order to collect the bounty on his head, U-THR found himself in Thune's possession. She considered the droid nothing more than a tool, which made U-THR question any loyalty he might have felt to her. U-THR was something of a fussbudget and a perfectionist, and disliked it when Thune changed plans without notifying him. Thune liked the droid because of its immense data storage capability, something which allowed her to have almost instant access to a wealth of information. After Thune captured Kaj Nedmak, U-THR found that Kaj actually liked the droid, not just the fact that it was useful. When Thune stabbed Kaj in the heart with a knife, U-THR realized that it could no longer serve Thune. When Thune wasn't looking, U-THR gave Kaj a blaster with which to stun Thune, then helped pilot the Faceted in order to rescue Celia Durasha and Treytis Prash. After they turned in Thune to the authorities, U-THR agreed to join Kaj and Celia as a "free-trader," a description the droid preferred to "smuggler." (SWJ14)
